"Handle With Care" launched on Mothers' Day
I'm very excited to be associated with a unqiue Australian book on high risk pregnancies, co-authored by Evelyn Tsitas and Caroline van de Pol. Recently launched on Mothers' Day at the Abbotsford Convent, "Handle With Care" offers an insight into the inspirational journeys that women have taken in the face of complicated pregnancies and deliveries. It provides anecdotal experiences of women dealing with conditions such as hypertension, epilepsy, lupus, mental health issues, multiple sclerosis, cancer, thyroid disorders, quadriplegia, pre-eclampsia, incompetent cervix, uterine malformations, bleeding in pregnancy, multiple births and much more, all whilst trying to achieve the delivery of a healthy baby(s). I was particularly pleased to be asked to contribute a chapter on naturopathic care, and whilst it is general and broad, it must be remembered that a good naturopath will never treat two people with an identical condition in an identical way. There is also a terrific Wellness Planner that offers invaluable advice about what you should do in the pre-conception stage and during your pregnancy, what your partner can do, and what you should ask your obstetrician about high risk pregnancies and medication. I highly recommend this book to all prospective parents, but especially to those whose experience of pregnancy does not go to rule. Where is my naturopathic file now that the Berwick Clinic has closed?
